Middlebury Bicyclist, Stuck By Car, Dies

MIDDLEBURY – A Middlebury man on a bicycle was killed by a Syracuse motorist  early this morning.

According to an Elkhart County crash news release, Derek Flynn, 28, Syracuse, was traveling north in his 2006 Chevrolet Silverado on Ind. 13, south of CR 20, when he rear-ended Freeman Miller, 57, Middlebury, who was riding his bicycle north on Ind. 13.

The accident happened at about 3:57 a.m. today.

Miller died from the injuries he sustained in the crash. He was wearing a reflective vest and had lights affixed to his bicycle, police said.

Flynn’s truck sustained damage to the front end, but Flynn was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
