Editor, Times-Union: I am (sort of) glad to see that Mr. Metzger has returned from his sabbatical. It (really) saddens me that he still has not learned anything. He bemoans about the Koch Brothers’ and how they’ve hijacked the “Republicans.” If Mr. Metzger truly despised the “two-party” system, he would have spent some time talking about how the wealthy have hijacked the “Democrats.”
George Soros is a wealthy hedge fund manager who has made money. He’s been around the block a time or two. Soros is most known as the “man who broke the Bank of England.” He also is linked to the Asian Crisis in 1997 and was convicted of insider trading in France in 2006. This man has given money to groups such as the Open Society Institute, Democracy Alliance and Center for American Progress, MoveOn.org He has donated to “liberal” causes just as the Koch Brothers have donated to “conservative” causes. The problem is that both Soros and the Koch Brothers are liberals. The two-party system is broken and those rich people want to donate to people who will advance their agendas. I can be sure that the Tea Party that Mr. Metzger claims is linked to the AFP is NOT the true Tea Party.
Why is Mr. Metzger enamored by the AFP event – probably because he is still not getting any wealthy supporters to fund his message? Now I know that that Mr. Metzger has not mentioned anything like Open Society Institute, because they weren’t in the area recently. This is the same old rhetoric: complain about a group talking about their “partisan leanings,” and try to warn people. In reality, he is just whining. If the Koch Brothers scratched a check to his group for 10 million, he’d be singing praises about them from the top of the Courthouse dome. They haven’t – so he pouts.
