Metzger Is Wrong

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I take issue with Tom Metzger on his article on blacks in the newspaper dated Jan. 31.

I graduated in 1953 with a black named Russell Joseph Sansburg. He was an educator, diagnostician and clinician who was trained as a speech therapist, reading specialist and special educator. He was an advocate for the disabled. At the time of his death in 2000, he was supervisor of pupil personnel services in Plymouth/Canton School District. He received degrees from Manchester College, Michigan State, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. He was a former member of Manchester College Board of Trustees and the president of Michigan State University National Alumni Association. He was a leader in the former Michigan State Employees Association and helped found the Michigan Association of Governmental Employees and the list goes on.

I was proud to have Russell and also another black named Eugene Lewis (whom I have lost contact with) as my class mates.
