Metzger Chosen As Next Clay Township Trustee

CLAYPOOL - Jacob Metzger was unanimously selected by a Republican caucus Thursday night to serve as the next Clay Township trustee.

Metzger, who was the only candidate to file for the position, did not attend the caucus as he is in Florida, according to Kosciusko County Republican Party Central Committee Chair Mike Ragan. The caucus included two precinct committeemen and was held at the Claypool Lions Building.

Metzger will be given the oath of office at noon Dec. 31 at the GOP headquarters downtown Warsaw.

The position became open with the resignation of Republican Helen Brown, effective Dec. 31.

A former Warsaw police officer, Metzger previously said he decided to seek the position because he believes he can help the community and wants to be involved.

A 2012 Warsaw Community High School graduate, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 2012 to 2016 and then WPD from 2016 to 2020. Wanting to be around his children more, he left the police force and began working as a mechanic and laborer for his family’s business, Metzger & Son Trucking, Silver Lake.
