Meth Addiction

This letter is in response to Brenda Kreis.

I am confused that you could be so daft to respond to Mr. Niles’ letter in that manner. It is obvious that you have not lived through many life experiences given the fact you reside in the small town of Claypool where you can throw a rock across the entire town.

Do you even know anyone that has been addicted to meth? You can’t say, “Oh! I think I’ll get high today after I drive to McDonald’s in Warsaw to get a Big Mac or just turn yourself in to the Bowen Center.” LOL!

Where would you recommend that Mr. Niles get some help at? Did it ever dawn on you that Mr. Niles probably doesn’t have insurance? At best, Mr. Niles may get a three-day detox stay at a rehab center. Will that really help him?

Brenda, I know that you are probably still feeling confused but addiction is a disease and you can’t just stop. What you should do, Brenda, since you are so concerned with the meth problem in the community is do your research to find rehab centers, etc., where addicts can go to seek help that don’t have insurance. If you find some of these places write to the paper with information so meth addicts can seek help.

I believe the community does care about Mr. Niles, Brenda. Given the fact that meth and addiction is a growing problem, I believe our elected officials are overwhelmed with this problem in the community and there is no funding for alternative sentencing, ultimately because of today’s economy. People like Mr. Niles will get busted and go to prison where there are no good programs for him to get needed help. After he is released he will still have the same addiction problem.

Do you get it now or are you still confused? It’s pretty cut and dry to me. Thinking like this only adds to the problem, Brenda.
