ROCHESTER - Merle D. Grossman, 73, of 20302 Ironwood Road, Argos, went into the arms of his Lord at 3:55 p.m. April 24, 2008, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

He was one of 11 children, born to Lott and Corene Hagenbush Grossman in Argos on Nov. 23, 1934. On July 3, 1956, in Plymouth, he married Dorthie Miller, who survives at home.

He was a lifetime Argos community resident and a graduate of Argos High School. He was a dairy farmer for most of his life, and also had worked at Standard Motors, formerly Ristance, Argos, for eight years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Argos. The family enjoyed camping together all over the United States. Often, they were looking for chimes, listening for a special tone. He spent hours at a time puttering around the farm. John Deere green was his favorite color.

Survivors, who will greatly miss him, also include two daughters, Loretta (and spouse Thomas) Caudill, Culver; Diana Grossman, Argos; five sons: Ronald (and spouse Patti) Grossman, Akron; Donald Grossman, Argos; Joey Grossman, Plymouth; Jan (and spouse Cindy) Grossman, Grant, Mich.; Edward (and spouse Teresa) Grossman, Bourbon; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Young, Niles, Mich., and Donna (and spouse Robert) Loop, LaPorte; a brother, Lowell (and spouse Bonnie) Grossman, Argos; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Martha Longstretch and Virginia Bollhoefer; and five brothers: Gerald, Dwight, Leroy, George and Richard "Dick" Grossman.

A celebration of Merle's life will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Rev. John Fishburn officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.

Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
