MENTONE – Raising the rate Indiana Telephone Network pays to Mentone to keep its internet equipment on the town’s water tower was discussed during the Mentone Town Council meeting Wednesday.
Indiana Telephone Network has an agreement with the town to rent space on the water tower for $100 a month.
No action was taken by the Council Wednesday. Indiana Telephone Network will be asked to have a representative at the town’s next meeting, which is Feb. 3.
Will and Mickey Sparkman approached the council about a rezoning. Will said the couple are in the process of buying the old dentist office at 107 S. Broadway St. and wanted to convert the property from commercial to residential zoning. He said the intent is to make it into a single-family residence.
Council President Jill Gross said she went to the surveyor’s office, recorder’s office and assessor’s office last week to see if it needed to be switched from commercial to residential and was told it did not.
Gross said the council will leave the zoning as is unless there is someone who buys the property who wants to change the zoning for a homestead credit, which requires a property to be on property zoned residential.
In other business, the Council:
• Learned the State Board of Accounts lowered the 2021 budget for the cemetery fund by $4,000 from $16,886 to $12,886 due to projected revenues.
• Approved town utilities employee Corbin Hudson to take a seven-week long class with Alliance of Rural Water.
