MENTONE – The Mentone Town Council met Monday night with a short agenda.
The council voted that Mentone Police Department officer Sam Bohnke would receive a $1,000 raise after completing the Indiana police academy. Bohnke completed the 15-week program on Feb. 2 and started as a reserve officer in Mentone.
Councilman Tim Croy encouraged business owners on Main Street to keep their sidewalks clear because it is evident that the snow in Northern Indiana is not done just yet.
Valley Sanitation has raised the monthly fee for trash pick-up. Residents will not have to worry about paying the fee since the town decided to absorb the payments. The city council approved to make the $3,150-a-month payments.
The council will have an executive session on Feb. 13 to discuss insurance for the town employees. The meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m.
The town will be having a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 1 for a new business, with more information to come in the upcoming weeks.
