Mentone Launches CreatINg Places Crowdfunding Campaign To Complete Mentzer Park Phase 2 Improvements

Posted

MENTONE — The Mentone community has until May 30 to turn $50,000 into $275,000.
The town of Mentone shared Mentzer Park phase two is officially underway — a major step forward in creating a park that reflects the heart, energy and pride of the community, according to a news release from the town of Mentone. With phase one completed in September, the town is ready to build on that and bring even more opportunities for recreation, connection and family fun.
The town announced phase two will add several amenities:
• Pickleball Courts: Dedicated, regulation courts for the fastest-growing sport in the country.
• 9-Hole Disc Golf Course: A professional-style course that features beautiful natural landscape.
• ¼-Mile Walking Path: A smooth, accessible walking loop that encourages fitness, family activity and outdoor recreation.
• "The Gathering Place" Kitchenette: Completing the town’s new pavilion (recently named "The Gathering Place") with appliances and fixtures needed for family reunions and community events.
• Corn Hole & Social Areas: New lawn game and sturdy seating to help neighbors connect.
• Accessibility: Expanded parking lot to make the park safe and accessible for everyone.
The release states, “This next phase is powered by momentum — and by people like you. Thanks to the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places program, Mentone has a strong foundation of support to execute this phase. Now, our community has the opportunity to raise $50,000, which will unlock a matching grant to bring phase two to life.”
Every contribution, whether large or small, moves the town closer to a park that serves everyone.
“This is a rare moment where a $25 donation actually turns into $100 worth to complete the space,” said Jill Gross, Mentone Town Council president. “The finish line is in sight, but if we don't hit that $50,000 mark by the deadline, we leave $225,000 in matching funds on the table, and we want to take full advantage of this opportunity for our community and the surrounding region.”
Mentzer Park has always been more than a green space — it’s where families gather, kids grow and neighbors connect. Phase two strengthens that legacy and ensures the park remains a welcoming, vibrant place for generations to come, stated the release.
“Let’s make Mentzer Park the heart of this town,” said Rita Price Simpson, Mentone Chamber of Commerce president. “This isn't just about park benches; it’s about making Mentone a place where families want to plant roots. We are building a legacy, and every resident can take part in it for a fraction of the usual cost.”
The Mentzer Park phase two crowdfunding campaign will officially launch on Saturday during the Chamber Easter Egg Hunt at Mentzer Park. Community members can visit the project page Patronicity.com/Mentzer-Park to learn more and make an online contribution. Donations may also be made in person at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office at 201 W. Main St. or by mail at Town of Mentone Mentzer Park, P.O. Box 562, Mentone, IN 46539.
