Mary Maxine Sleighter, 90, formally of Pierceton, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Nov. 2, 2011, in North Ridge Village Nursing & Rehab Center, Albion.
She was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Fort Wayne, to Thurman G. and Nellie Birtwhistle Busz. In February 1944, she married David C. Sleighter.
She lived in Pierceton for many years and then moved to Columbia City for 20 years. She was a homemaker and worked for the family business, Sleighter Brothers Gas Service, Pierceton. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana (and spouse Robert) Ritchie, Kimmell, and Beverly (and spouse Douglas) Metz, Leesburg; a son, David L. Sleighter, Columbia City; a stepdaughter, Karen (and spouse Charles) Levitz, Columbia City; a brother James (and spouse Janice) Busz, Pierceton; two sister, Ada Finken, Pierceton, and Lois Sleighter, Columbia City; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by four brothers and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton, with Pastor Holly White officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
