WARSAW – Mary Margaret Welge, 71, Warsaw, passed away at 11:18 a.m. Sept. 8, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Marion to Glen Robert and Cleoda Ruth Sprinkle Boxell. On June 11, 1966, in Marion she married Fred J. Welge, who survives in Warsaw. She graduated in 1960 from Marion High School, attended Indiana University in Bloomington and then graduated in 1964 from Ball State University, Muncie, with her bachelor’s degree. She later received her master’s degree from Ball State. She retired in 2003 after 25 years as a teacher for Blackford County School Corporation, where she taught fifth grade and remedial reading, and served as a swimming instructor. She formerly taught at Connersville Elementary and Eaton Elementary schools. She moved to the Warsaw area in 2003 from Albany but spent summers here most of her life. She formerly attended the First Christian Church in Marion, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed traveling and loved her family. Also surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Elaine (and spouse Daniel) Barfield, Newburgh; two sons, Eric Case (and Darlene Gatlin) Welge, Tallahassee, Fla., and Martin Randal (and spouse Rebecca) Welge, St. Louis; four grandchildren: Andrew and Elijah Barfield, and Simon and Max Welge; two sisters, Marietta Showalter, Leesburg, and Glenna (and spouse Ronald) Bishop, Cheboygan, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth Shelley. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, with Pastor Tim Wallace officiating.
