Mary Kay Newcomb Umberger, 90, of 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, died at 7:15 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009, in Grace Village Healthcare Center, Winona Lake.

She was born May 6, 1919, in Kosciusko County, to Paul and Ocie Parker Newcomb. In June 1938, in Burket, she married Larry Umberger, who preceded her in death in 1981.

She lived in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for 35 years before moving back to Kosciusko County. She graduated from School of Cosmetology, South Bend. She was a private secretary in Chicago and Los Angeles, Calif. She was a former member of Burket United Methodist Church and Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Patricia Stevens School of Modeling, Chicago.

Surviving are a sister, Jean (and spouse George) Hatfield, Burket; three nephews: Terry (and spouse Maureen) Weed, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Chip (and spouse Paula) Gast, Huntington; John (and spouse Connie) Newcomb, Bremen; three nieces: Kim (and spouse Rick) Deniston, Winona Lake; Jill (and spouse Steve) Bailey, Richmond; Terry Weed Klaus, Galveston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Newcomb, Nappanee; and four godchildren: Chip Gast, Kim Deniston, Nicholas Weed, Texas, and Kimberly Weed Hope, Texas. She was preceded in death by a son, Eric Paul Umberger, in 1950; a brother, Jack Newcomb; a sister, Laura Jones; and a nephew, Ted Weed.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Palestine Cemetery, with Pastor Chip Gast officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.

No calling is planned.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
