SYRACUSE - Mary H. Sumner, 73, Syracuse, died Aug. 28, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital.
She was born June 20, 1936, in Hammond, to Ray and Mabel Wright Hahn. On Aug. 27, 1960, in Hammond, she married Roger D. Sumner Sr., who preceded her in death.
She graduated in 1954 from Hammond High School, attended Kalamazoo (Mich.) College and Indiana University where she received her bachelor of arts degree. She received her master's degree from the University of Wisconsin. She was a licensed teacher and registered nurse. She formerly taught school in Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh, Pa. She was a nurse for Harmarville Rehabilitation Center, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Vicksburg (Miss.) Medical Center; and Lakeland Rehab and Nursing Home, Milford. She moved to the Dewart Lake area in 1993 from Vicksburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (and spouse Dennis) Lott, San Antonio, Texas; and a son, Roger Sumner Jr., Syracuse.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse. Burial will be at Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
