Marvin S. Clay, 86, passed away at 1:45 a.m. June 2, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Burket, to Cloice and Cleo Parker Clay. On Feb. 24, 1951, in Winona Lake, he married Shirley Wilson, who preceded him in death.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He attended Warsaw Wesleyan Church, Warsaw. He honorably served in the U.S. Army after graduation from Warsaw High School in 1947.
He worked for the United Telephone Company as a self-contractor telephone cable splicer. He also worked as a cable splicer for Hinkle & McCoy as a private contractor, and he owned and operated Clay Cable Construction. After retiring from the telephone industry, he owned The Corner Laundromat in Pierceton.
In his spare time, he was an avid Notre Dame sports enthusiast, loved bowling, enjoyed playing cards and gardening. He was also the 1972 “D” Flight Club champion at Rozella Ford Golf Course.
He is survived by his four children: Lee Ann Galbreath, Noblesville; Lana Neff, Sparta, Tenn.; Lynn (and spouse Bill) Leslie, Burket; and Lon (and spouse Joni) Clay, Warsaw; three sisters: Carroll Laney, Warsaw; Marita Cox, Akron; and Delores Ginther, Bremen; his brother, William (and spouse Paula) Clay, Warsaw; 10 grandchildren: Ryan (and spouse Jamie) Shirey, Cailin, Kylee and Courtney Clay, all of Warsaw; Brandon (and spouse Serena) Shirey, Noblesville; Brent Bumgardener, Southern; Brook Bumgardener, Denver, Colo.; Chanda Belk, Naperville, Ill.; Justin (and spouse Stephanie) Leslie, Leesburg; Samuel Richardson, Melbourn, Fla.; and 10 great grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Lance Clay; a grandson; a great-grandson; and his parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with the Rev. Andy Weaver officiating. Burial is in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
