AKRON – Marvin G. Bahney, 79, of 15688 N. CR 100E, Akron, Miami County, died at 12:01 p.m. July 10, 2012, in his residence.
He was born Oct. 5, 1932, in Wabash County, to Urban S. and Nellie E. Dillsaver Bahney. On Nov. 22, 1981, in Lapel, he married Carol A. Crousore Shambarger, who survives.
He was a U.S. Amy veteran and was a dairy farmer for many years as well as working at Sonoco Products Co., Akron. He graduated from Gilead High School in 1950 and International Business College with a degree in accounting. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and Eagles Lodge, all of Rochester. He was very active with the LeRoy Shelton Honor Guard serving for many funerals. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and gardening.
Also surviving are five daughters: Jana Bahney-Green, Kokomo; Lory (and spouse Barry) Newhouse, Fort Wayne; Jill (and spouse Kevin) Pugh, Rochester; Kelly (and spouse Gary) Lebo, Middletown, Ohio; and Lela (and spouse Gordon) Nash, Warsaw; four sons: Marty (and spouse Kathy) Bahney, Winona Lake; Ty (and spouse Ida) Bahney and Randy Shambarger, all of Rochester; and Chuck (and spouse Robin) Shambarger, Jackson, N.J.; several grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Bonnie “Colleen” Miller, Macy; and a brother, John (and spouse Barb) Bahney, Macy. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher “Skip” Shambarger; a granddaughter, Aubrey Hogue; and two brothers, Bobbie and Virgil “Butch” Bahney.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, officiated by the Rev. Junior Bose and with military honors by members of the LeRoy Shelton American Legion 36 and VFW Post 1343, both in Rochester. A private burial will be at a later date in Akron Cemetery.
