AKRON - Martha L. Shireman, 75, of 12635 W. CR 900S, Akron, died at 7:55 p.m. Aug. 16, 2009, in Manor Care at Summer Trace, Carmel. She was in failing health since 2005.

She was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Kosciusko County, to Omer and Pauline Poor Drudge. She had lived her entire life at the same residence. On July 2, 1955, at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, Akron, she married Paul E. Shireman, who died Aug. 18, 1995.

She was the extension agent for Fulton County for 21 years. She graduated from Beaver Dam high School in 1951, and earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from Purdue University in 1955. She taught home economics at Akron High School for five years. She was a member of Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, Akron; Alpha Delta Phi Sorority; the John Purdue Club; and Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved Purdue University and had season tickets to Purdue football games for more than 40 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Paula K. Shireman (and spouse Patrick Conroy), San Antonio, Texas; two sons, Greg L. (and spouse Julie) Shireman, Schaumburg, Ill., and Mark A. (and spouse Margret) Shireman, Carmel; eight grandchildren: Jeffery, Alan, Grant, Derek, Jack, Patrick, Paul and Aine; and a sister, Mary Randall-Florey (and spouse Monte Florey), Warsaw.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, Akron, with the Revs. Butch Troke and Jacqueline Foley officiating. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
