AKRON - Martha Eva Smith, 88, formerly of Akron, died at 6 a.m. March 2, 2011, in Life Care Center of Rochester, where she resided.

She was born July 30, 1922, in Magoffin County, Ky., to Tom and Alice Hackworth Adams. On Dec. 17, 1928, in Brainard, Ky., she married Edgar Smith, who survives.

Moving to Akron from Salyersville, Ky., 51 years ago, she was a lifetime member of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake. She loved to garden, sew and make quilts. She always had a house full of children and grandchildren for Sunday dinners and all the holidays. She always said she had room for one more. Her life's joy was her family.

Surviving are 10 children: James Smith, Warsaw; Joyce Vance and Lynda (and spouse Ted) Richard, all of Rochester; Janice (and spouse Gary) Howes, Salyersville, Ky.; Ronnie (and spouse Linda) Smith, Burket; Russell (and spouse Rita) Smith, Michael (and spouse Julie) Smith and Lisa (and spouse Frank) Whitaker, all of Akron; Sharon (and spouse David) Randall, Silver Lake; and Keith (and spouse Sheila) Smith, Sidney; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Smith, Fairbank, Ohio, and Venus Jewel Sparks, Life Care, Rochester; 30 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Prater, who died in 2010; two sons, Gary and Donald Smith; a granddaughter, Traci LeAnn Richard; a grandson, Darrell Wayne Howes; a daughter-in-law, Murline Smith; a son-in-law, Teddy Vance; a brother, Ortie Adams; and a sister, Icie Smith.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, 303 S. Jefferson, Silver Lake, with the Rev. Frank Whitaker and Bishop Thomas Branham officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Earl-Love Funeral Home, Akron, is in charge of arrangements.
