COLUMBIA CITY - Martha Diana Fawcett Mayberry, 99, formerly of Columbia City, died at 3:15 a.m. Feb. 8, 2009, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw, where she resided since 2002.

She was born July 12, 1909, in Seneca County, Ohio, to Jacob N. and Laura A. Thomas McKee. On March 31, 1929, she married Maxwell H. Fawcett, who died June 1, 1975. On Feb. 11, 1977, she married Marion Mayberry, who died in 1985.

She graduated from Central High School and attended Manchester College. She lived in North Manchester until 1937, moved to Columbia City, then to Whitley County in 1941, and to South Whitley in 1947. She was co-owner and operator of Fawcett Furniture from the mid 1940s until 1975. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia City.

Surviving are a son, James M. Fawcett, Coldwater, Mich.; a daughter, Diana (and spouse Dick) Wright, Warsaw; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a stepson, Donald (and spouse Jean) Mayberry, Dearborn, Mich.; and two stepdaughters. She was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and six sisters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with the Rev. J. Phillip Blake officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
