Marna Kay Riedel, 69, of 4440 S. CR 700W, Mentone, passed away at 4:55 p.m. March 1, 2011, in her residence.
She was born Nov. 1, 1941, in Elkhart, to H. Dean and Pauline A. Hoover Goshert. On Aug. 11, 1962, she married Richard E. Riedel, who survives.
She was a 1959 graduate of Mentone High School; received a bachelor's degree in 1964 from Valparaiso University; and later received her master's degree from St. Francis University. She was a teacher for the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp., Burket, since 1964. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma - Alpha Nu Chapter, a Girl Scout leader, was a member of the Red Hat Society, as well as volunteering for many church functions. After teaching for more than 35 years, she never lost her love for children. Her passion then became being an advocate for children as a volunteer for CASA of Kosciusko County.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Richard Riedel, Mentone; two daughters, Paula B. (and spouse David) Spolski, Beaver Dam, Laura J. (and spouse Fred) Closs, Rock Hill, S.C.; two grandchildren, Justin Larrabee, San Diego, Calif., and Brandon Larrabee, Beaver Dam; and a brother, Richard L. (and spouse Patricia) Goshert, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, officiated by Pastors Bryan Koorey and Jeff Pfeifer. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
