Marilyn Ann Whitman, of Warsaw, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the age of 83.
She was born on April 11, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pa., to Mildred Miller and Clair Hitz. Marilyn was raised on the Main Line of Philadelphia and lived in the town of Wynnewood. She graduated from Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pa. She attended Taylor University, where she met her husband, Wendell W. Whitman, and graduated from Indiana Central. They were married on Sept. 4, 1964, and were blessed with 43 years of marriage before Wendell passed away on May 21, 2008.
After getting married, she worked for a medical doctor at Eli Lilly and Company and then became a pastor's wife for six years in Crothersville at Immanuel United Church of Christ. She especially enjoyed teaching Good News Clubs and using Child Evangelism materials. For several summers, Marilyn also enjoyed taking the young people to the Youth for Christ National Convention, held at the former Billy Sunday Tabernacle in Winona Lake.
She would then move to Warsaw and be an insurance agent for the Wendell W. Whitman Insurance Agency. Her husband was a visionary who taught natural health seminars to students across the country. Marilyn traveled extensively with him and earned Delta Airlines Gold Medallion status. At the same time, he formed several businesses, and Marilyn worked at Herb Haus, Certified Natural Health Professionals, Nutritional Resources and, most recently, Trinity School of Natural Health.
Marilyn was a member of the Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Winning over Widowhood, Community Bible Study, Warsaw Ladies Bible Study, and the Winona Literary Club. She loved playing tennis and became a voracious reader of inspirational fiction.
She lived by the words that say, “God has every right, and my permission to re-arrange my life at any time ... in any way ... in order to fulfill His plan for its influence, to His glory.”
Marilyn will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Kimberly (Michael) Bushman, of Carmel; and Julie (Bill) Kline, of Warsaw. She leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Megan (Noah) Cutshaw, Noblesville; Tyler (Sienna) Bushman, Indianapolis; Katelyn (Brantley) Springmeyer, Indianapolis; Cody (Raquel) Kline, Warsaw; Riley (Joseph) Beck, Warsaw; Jacob (Cassandra) Kline, Warsaw and seven great-grandchildren, including Joshua, Charlotte, Sophia, Olivia, Abigail, Hudson and D. Also surviving is her sister, Carolyn Terrell, of Richmond, Va.; and brother, David (Kris) Hitz, of Malvern, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Marilyn’s life will be celebrated with a service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 at Redpath-Fruth-Byers Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Aaron Klein. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.
