COLUMBIA CITY – Mantie L. Furnas, 60, rural Atwood, died March 28, 2014, at her home.
She was born Aug. 12, 1953, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Lonnie Vincent and Pearl Mae Halcomb Collier. On May 31, 1986, she was united in marriage to Donald W. Furnas, who survives.
They have always made their home in rural Atwood.
In 1960 her family moved to Shelbyville, and in 1963 to Columbia City. She graduated from Larwill High School.
She was employed at S & L Truck Stop for 13 years, Dana PTG for three years, Bob Evans in Warsaw for three years and Walmart in Warsaw for two years. Her memberships include Otterbein United Methodist Church in Atwood and formerly Eagles #1906 Auxiliary.
Also surviving are three children: Joseph P. Woods, Larwill; Ellen Leota (and spouse Daniel) Yocum and Tasha Clark, both of Warsaw; three stepchildren: Phillip (and spouse Stephanie) Furnas, Fort Wayne; Malinda and Robert Furnas, both of Akron; nine grandchildren; five brothers: Paul L. Maggard, Eolia, Ky.; Dewey Edward Collier, Beattyville, Ky.; Wallace Collier, Harold Collier and Rick Collier, all of Columbia City; two sisters, Stacy M. Dear and Sandra Kneller, both of Columbia City; and a foster sister, Kathi McKinney, Larwill. She was preceded in death by her parents; her foster mom, Dorothy King; three brothers: Timothy R. Maggard, Daniel B. Maggard and Roger W. Collier; and a sister, Janice Marie Maggard.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is in South Park Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
