Manchester OKs Street Closure For Car Show

NORTH MANCHESTER - At Wednesday night’s regular meeting, the town council approved a street closure request and awarded an asphalt bid for the Community Crossings grant project. The council also opened bids for water softening salt.

Town manager Adam Penrod reported that asphalt prices are down, as reflected by Gaunt and Son’s bid of $632,567.00 for Phase 2 of the Community Crossings-funded project. Phase 2 will include new curbs for all of Wayne Street, said Penrod.

Given community members’ interest in hosting a car show despite the cancellation of Fun Fest, the town council approved a request from the Eel River Cruisers group to close Market Street from State Road 114 to 9th Street, in coordination with the North Manchester Police Department. The event is still in the works but is planned for a Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m.

Penrod opened two bids for water softening salt, one from Cargill and the other from Midwest Salt. Midwest Salt, the town’s current provider, went up from $119.00 to $129.00 per ton. Cargill’s bid was lower, at $118.50 per ton.

Fire chief Cam Kissinger told the council that the weather looks good for Saturday’s fireworks show. He also mentioned the updated department roster is up to 34 crew members.

Clerk-treasurer Carrie Mugford reported a town docket of $603,294.17 and a utilities docket of $122,553.74.

The council will next meet at 7 p.m. August 5.
