NORTH MANCHESTER - At Wednesday night's meeting, the North Manchester Town Council approved a funding request from the Wabash County Education Visioning Group.
Sally Krouse was present to represent the group, which was formed to collect feedback from community stakeholders, determine a consensus and form a countywide plan of what residents want from their K-12 education. The plan could then be shared with school corporations.
Council members voted to donate $10,000 to the group for their efforts. The total budget for this project is $65,000.
In old business, the council approved the addition of an ADA accessible parking space at Manchester University. Ordinances regarding building code revisions and an anti-discrimination ordinance for the town of North Manchester were also approved on second, pending third, reading.
Council President Jim Smith read the proclamation declaring April 28 as Arbor Day.
Various new ordinances were introduced on first reading, including traffic ordinance revisions to remove “No Parking” signage in areas which now allow parking, and the addition of 10-minute parking spaces in front of the Sisters Café at Manchester University.
In other business:
• Fire Chief Cam Kissinger said the department's pancake breakfast will be Sept. 23.
• Fireworks at the high school will be on July 1 with a rain date of July 4.
• There was a town docket of $604,587.14 and a utilities docket of $503,450.24.
