Manchester Council Approves Learn More Center Funding Request

NORTH MANCHESTER – At Wednesday night's meeting, the North Manchester Town Council approved a $10,000 funding request from the Learn More Center, as presented at the March regular meeting.
There was no public hearing as advertised, as the town is no longer pursuing a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA).
In new business, the council heard two funding requests: $15,000 from Manchester Alive and $10,000 from the countywide Diversity Coalition.
Council approved tax abatements for Intertech Products, MPS Egg Farms and S&T Investments. It was noted that MPS is the sixth-largest egg producer in the United States. Representatives from each business spoke to council, providing an annual update.
In other business, council:
• Approved a street closure on Market Street from 7th to 9th streets in front of Warvel Park for the Manchester Early Learning Center's spring fair, held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 25.
• Approved various street closures for upcoming Manchester Alive events, including a four-day festival from July 30 to Aug. 2.
• Approved an updated national flood plain ordinance on second reading and an ordinance to prohibit commercial use of public records on first reading.
• Approved claims including a town docket of $698,276.00 and a utilities docket of $450,096.79.
In visitor comments, Russ Reahard called for a town ordinance prohibiting public drag shows in North Manchester.
Council President Chalmer “Toby” Tobias read the annual Arbor Day Proclamation.
Spring cleanup days will be the week of April 27.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. May 6.
