Manchester Council Approves Environmental Contract

Posted

NORTH MANCHESTER – At Wednesday night's meeting, the North Manchester Town Council approved an environmental contract for the Eel River Commons project, to be paid with Lilly grant funding.
The contract is for $7,500 plus $800 in travel costs to conduct an environmental review of the area, which historically has been used as a dumping ground.
Council responded to the feedback heard at the February meeting regarding a drag show held at the Firehouse. In a prepared statement, council cited the First and 14th Amendments which prohibit the town from censoring anyone's artistic expression in public spaces.
On first reading, council approved an updated National Flood Plain ordinance to bring the town's current ordinance up to new standards since government maps have increased flooding areas.
In other business, council:
• Heard a $10,000 funding request from the Learn More Center.
• Approved the purchase of a new police truck to replace a 2016 Impala.
• Approved a town docket of $626,680.88 and a utilities docket of $323,883.55.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. April 1.
