A Warsaw man is facing charges after allegedly hitting a woman with a hammer.

Brandon John Bellamy, 41, of 1103 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, and also showing an address of 3608 S. Bruner Road, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:26 p.m. Thursday and faces charges for domestic battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; and intimidation, a Level 6 felony.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Kosciusko Superior Court I, on Thursday Kosciusko County Sheriff deputies responded to a home in reference to a domestic complaint where a woman had just been struck with a hammer.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the woman who said she had returned to the home earlier that day and Bellamy would not let her in. She did eventually get in and she went to her bedroom, where Bellamy continued to yell at her and said that “he shot his ex-wife in the neck and he would shoot her in the head and make sure it kills her.”

The woman told police Bellamy then began swinging a hammer at her and struck her in the wrist, causing swelling and significant pain, according to court papers.

When police spoke with Bellamy, according to the affidavit, Bellamy said he’s been using methamphetamine for the past nine months, including that day.

According to court records, Bellamy was convicted Feb. 16, 2017, in Kosciusko Superior Court I for criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon after he discharged a firearm in a resident and struck his girlfriend in the neck. Bellamy was also convicted of fraud in 2007 and forgery in 1996.

His bond in this matter was set at $6,000.
