NORTH MANCHESTER – Mamie A. Keim, 81, Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, died at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at the  healthcare center.

She was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Cass County, to John J. and Rachel Hynes Smith. On June 10, 1951, she married John H. Keim, who died Dec. 17, 1998.

She was a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester, where she served as organist for many years.

She was a teacher and counselor for 40 years, 30 of those years with Manchester Community Schools, retiring in 1995.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Manchester College in 1951 and a master’s in education degree from Indiana University in 1965. She was a member of National Education Association, Indiana Retired Teachers, the ISTA and the MTA.

Surviving are three sons, Charles R. (and spouse Lorena) Keim and William E. Keim, all of North Manchester, and Wallace E. (and spouse Lori) Keim, The Woodlands, Texas; a daughter, Janis A. Keim (and companion Cindy Thomas), Penrose, N.C.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor Ron Burns officiating, assisted by the Rev. Kurt Stout. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
