Warsaw Community High School has named John Wesley Maierle as the next Tiger boys track and field coach, pending the approval of the Warsaw Board of School Trustees.
The Warsaw campus will be a familiar place for Maierle, a 2006 Warsaw graduate that excelled in three sports before moving on to Bethel College where he ran track for the Pilots. Maierle was a five-time All-American (indoor/outdoor) at Bethel College, and he currently holds the record in the long jump, decathlon and heptathlon events.
After graduating from Bethel, Maierle coached at both Bethel College and Olivet Nazarene University where he trained two national champions, 29 All-American athletes and 110 national qualifiers.
WCHS also has named Andy Manes as the new Tiger baseball coach, pending board approval.
Manes served as a varsity assistant coach in the Tiger dugout the previous four seasons
A three-time Mid-Central Conference First Team All-Conference pick while playing baseball at Grace College, Manes graduated from Lincoln Christian High School in Nebraska. He participated four years with his local American Legion team leading them to four district titles and two American Legion state runner-up performances.
