Editor, Times-Union: As an active member in the community of Kosciusko County, I was a little confused when I saw in numerous papers that the new Miss Kosciusko County Fair Queen is not even from our county. I know several of the contestants and would much rather have someone who contributes to our community and county be our representative as queen.
After calling into the state fair, I’ve learned that this is more of a county problem and that if the directors were doing their jobs, the girl would not have been allowed to compete in the first place. I understand rules say a girl from an adjoining county may compete in a different county's pageant so long as a majority of her events fall within the other county. From what I’ve read, all activities from which she’s active are from anywhere but Kosciusko.
I’m sure she’s a sweet girl and she won for a reason, but shouldn’t our officials be doing their job and only letting girls in who qualify?
