TERRE HAUTE - Lucille "Lou" Williams, 77, of Terre Haute, and also of Winona Lake, passed away May 16, 2009, in Fort Wayne.
She was born to Kenneth and Verda Thompson. On Aug. 10, 1951, she married Jerry Raymond Williams, who survives.
She was a homemaker who lived a Christian life and never met a stranger. Throughout her life she loved parties and getting people together, hosting many activities. She loved playing games, especially euchre and rook, and was a fierce competitor every time. She was spontaneous and full of energy throughout her life. She made countless pies and prepared numerous meals for others, and never lost contact with old friends. She was always attentive and supportive to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After replacing her hips she took up walking and proudly completed a 5K walk at 72. When her eyesight began to fail she learned how to read Braille. Nothing ever really stopped her until her death.
Also surviving are four children: Kathy (and spouse Stephen) Fonner, Tallapoosa, Ga.; Janet (and spouse Frank) Volkers, Terre Haute; Matthew (and spouse Pamula) Williams, West Terre Haute; and Joseph (and spouse Kathy) Williams, Irvington, Ala.; grandchildren, Amber (and spouse Lucian) Webb, Tallapoosa; Frank S. (and spouse Kerry) Volkers, Maplegrove, Minn.; Kevin Crist, Hot Springs, Ark.; Kyle (and spouse Kristen) Volkers, Adam (and spouse Cristy) Crist, Matthew Williams Jr. and Jason Williams, all of Terre Haute; Tyler Williams of Jeffersonville; Alicia Antrim, Irvington, Ala.; and Mehery Beth Burt, Irvington; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (and spouse Robert) Johnson, Terre Haute; two brothers, Jack (and spouse Helen) Thompson, Venice, Fla., and Montel (and spouse Maxine) Thompson, Terre Haute; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael Williams; a grandson, Frank Bradley Crist; a sister, Margaret Edwards; and two brothers, Thomas and Robert Thompson.
Services were at 11 a.m. today at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7550 N. Clinton St., Terre Haute, with the Rev. John Youngblood officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park.
