PIERCETON – Lorin “Lum” L. Danner, 89, of Pierceton, passed away at 12:46 a.m. Nov. 21, 2012, in Select Specialty Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Wabash County, to Lewis Edward and Goldie McKee Danner. On Oct. 13, 1946, in Warsaw, he married Betty Symons, who survives. He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was owner, operator and mechanic of Danner’s Garage, Pierceton, for 59 years. He drove the Engine “The General” from coast to coast in the National Legion Parades for 20 years, also driving to the dedications of the World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials. The purpose of “The General” was to promote patriotism across our great country. He was a life member of American Legion Post 258 and a past commander of the 2nd District; the 40&8 Voyageurs and a past chef de Gare; and Warsaw Elks Lodge 802. Also surviving are a son, Gale (and spouse Juanita) Danner, Warsaw; two daughters, Teresa (and spouse Ron) Conley and Susan (and spouse Michael) Stevens, all of Pierceton; a sister, Dorothy Ritzenthaler, Bourbon; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. Services will be at noon Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton, with Pastor Noel Reed officiating.
