AKRON - Loren K. Cumberland, 81, of 8332 S. Beaver Dam Road, Claypool, died at 8:30 a.m. March 4, 2009, in Life Care Center, Rochester, where he had been for one day.
He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Claypool, to Walter and Blanche Hanson Cumberland on his family's home farm where he lived his entire life. On Dec. 24, 1946, in Warsaw, he married Betty Rife, who passed Jan. 29, 1996.
He was a dairy and grain farmer. He was a school bus driver for Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. for many years. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School. He loved International Equipment and Holstein Cattle. He was a member of the Kosciusko County Echoes from the Past. He had been a member of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Stephen Cumberland, Claypool, and David (and spouse Lynda) Cumberland, Patoka, Ky.; two grandsons, Craig and Jason Cumberland, both of Fort Wayne; three granddaughters: Shannon (and spouse Ross) Key, Patoka, Ky.; Cara Cumberland, Carmel; and Stacy (and spouse Jim) Pomeroy, Lake Worth, Fla.; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Cumberland, who passed Oct. 14, 1990; seven brothers: Paul, Walter, Vernon, Frank, Eldon, Warren, and George Cumberland; and a sister, Mary Horn.
Services entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Private graveside services will be in Akron Cemetery.
