Local Volleyball Teams Split At North Miami Sectional

DENVER – One local team advanced, while another’s season ended Thursday in the Class 2A volleyball sectional at North Miami High School.
The Manchester Lady Squires beat Lewis Cass 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.
With the win, Manchester improved to 13-16 and advanced to Saturday’s 11 a.m. semifinal against Wabash, the sectional favorite at 29-3.
In Thursday’s other match, Whitko fell 25-20, 25-20, 25-12 to Rochester.
Whitko finished the season with an 0-21 record, while Rochester improved to 17-16 and will play North Miami in Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. semifinal.
Kendra Kline tallied 22 assists and eight digs in Manchester’s win, while Eva Bazzoni added 13 digs and seven kills.
Andrea Kahn finished with 10 kills for the Lady Squires, Emma West had eight digs and Anna Osborn chipped in with seven kills.
Lady Warriors Fall In Thriller
AKRON – Wawasee’s varsity volleyball season ended Thursday night in a five-game loss to the Lakeland Lakers in the Class 3A sectional at Tippecanoe Valley High School.
Lakeland pulled out a 21-25, 30-28, 17-25, 26-24, 16-14 victory over the Lady Warriors, who finished with a 13-19 record.
Lakeland improved to 4-19 and advanced to Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. semifinal against Tippecanoe Valley (17-15).
NorthWood beat Fairfield 25-22, 25-23, 25-15 in Thursday’s other match and will play West Noble in Saturday’s 11 a.m. semifinal.
The championship is slated for 6 p.m. Saturday.
Elizabeth Kleopfer led Wawasee with 33 assists, 11 digs and eight kills.
Brooke Heche tallied 18 digs for the Lady Warriors, while Madison Simmons finished with 19 kills and five aces, Janae Hapner had eight kills, and Ashley Vazquez added 11 assists
Satellites Top Triton Spikers
CULVER – In a rematch of the regular season finale, the Triton Lady Trojans fell 3-0 to South Central Thursday in the Class 1A volleyball sectional at Culver Community High School.
South Central, a 3-1 winner over Triton on Oct. 4, beat the Lady Trojans 25-22, 25-20, 26-24 Thursday.
South Central advanced to Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. semifinal against LaCrosse, a 25-20, 25-18, 25-23 winner over Culver in Thursday’s other match.
South Bend Career Academy and Oregon-Davis will open semifinal play at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The sectional final is slated for 7 p.m.
Emma Hepler tallied 21 assists and four aces in Triton’s loss, while Jaela Faulkner had nine digs, seven kills and three aces, and Abbey Viers chipped in with seven kills.
