Wawasee Splits Pair Of Games In Brebeuf Classic

INDIANAPOLIS – Wawasee split a pair of games Saturday in the Brebeuf Jesuit Classic girls basketball tournament, beating the host Braves 61-19 before falling 68-37 to Class 3A No. 9 Norwell.

Hannah Lancaster paced the Warriors with 13 points in the opener, with Jada Carter and Becca Smith adding 11 points each.

Smith was Wawasee’s top scorer in the Norwell game with eight points, while Carter and Kennedy White scored seven points each.

Fellow Northern Lakes Conference member Plymouth was the fourth team in the tournament, with results similar to Wawasee. The Pilgrims fell 48-36 to Norwell and took a 53-19 win over Brebeuf. The Pilgrims visit Wawasee to close out the NLC season Jan. 25.

Wawasee (6-9) hosts Garrett (10-3) for a non-conference game Wednesday.



Vikings Split At Concord Tourney

ELKHART – Tippecanoe Valley split its two games in the Concord Classic girls basketball tournament Saturday, falling 65-56 to Lakeland High School then taking a 69-49 win over West Noble.

In the Lakeland game, Jillian Walls led the team in scoring with 20 points, followed by Sidney Wagner with 19 and Kaydence Mellott had 10 points.

The Vikings had four players in double figures in the final game of the tournament, with Wagner leading the way with 18. Mellott had 17, Hayley Backus 13 and Walls 11 for the Vikings.

 The junior varsity won both games of its games Saturday. In the first game the Vikings beat Lakeland 52-42. Rily Holloway had 23 points and Sadie Snapp had 12 points.

It the second game the JV defeated West Noble 38-28. Holloway had 14 points and Molly Moriarty had 12 points.

Valley returns to Three Rivers Conference play Thursday, hosting Northfield at 7:30. The Norse are tied with Rochester for second place in the TRC at 4-1, each a half-game behind Valley at 4-0.



Cougars Fall In Title Game

WINONA LAKE – Jessi Calizo and Natalie Norris scored eight points each in Lakeland Christian Academy’s 49-28 loss to Covenant Christian in the championship game of the Cougar Classic girls basketball tournament on the Grace College Campus Saturday.

Tori Calizo had seven points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars. Jordan Gross had three points and Cara McCrum two to complete the LCA scoring.

Now 8-9. LCA travels to Argos for a game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.



LCA Boys Take 5th In Classic

WINONA LAKE – Cameron Shepherd hit four three-pointers and finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and three steals for Lakeland Christian Academy in its 48-42 win over Granger Christian in the fifth-place game of the Cougar Classic boys basketball tournament Saturday.

Peter Keller and Silas Gagnon scored seven points each, with Brayden Lane and Seth Martin adding four points each for the Cougars.

Now 3-9, LCA will host Tri-Central at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.



Warriors 4-0, Squires 3-1 In IHSWCA Tournament

FORT WAYNE – Wawasee won all four of its matches, and Manchester split its four matches in the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Team state tournement at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne Saturday.

The Warriors won 45-22 over Leo, 57-19 over Garrett, 46-27 over Norwell and 42-25 over Edgewood HS. Logan Stuckman (106 pounds) and Jace Alexander (126) each went 4-0 in the tournament, and Dylan Tom (120), Tim Shortt (145) and Logan Baugh (170) each went 3-1.

After falling 48-27 to Tell City, Manchester won 48-27 over Attica, fell 40-30 to Churubusco and won 42-27 over Wabash.

Dylan Stroud (132) collected four wins and moved to 22-0 on the season. Gavin Mize (170) went 3-0, with Elijah Burlingame (138) and Ashton Moore (195) went 3-1.

Wawasee (19-4) hosts NorthWood Thursday night in Northern Lakes Conference competition. It is also Senior Night for the Warriors.

Manchester (13-5) travels to Greentown to take on Eastern at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
