Local Sports Recaps for Jan. 9SYRACUSE – Eight Wawasee wrestlers were winners Thursday night, leading the Warriors to a 40-33 victory over visiting NorthWood in a Three Rivers Conference match.

Winners were Hunter Miller (113 pounds), Keyan Herbst (120), Dylan Tom (126), Brenden Dilley (132), Gavin Malone (138). Garrett Stickman (152), Isaiah Faroute (160) and Logan Baugh (170).

Wawasee (20-4) travels to Granger Tuesday to take on the Penn Kingsman in a non-conference match.

Carroll Gymnasts Edge Wawasee In Home Opener

SYRACUSE – Visiting Carroll defeated Wawasee 100.675 - 93.775 in the Warriors’ first home gymnastics meet of the season.

Aundreya Wegener was first in the all-around, and Talia Kuhl third for Wawasee. Wegener won the floor exercise and was third in the vault, beam and uneven bars. Kuhl was second on the vault, fourth on the beam, fifth on the bars and sixth in the floor exercise.

Olivia Ousley had a pair of fourth-place finishes, on the vault and in the floor exercise.

There were definitely some ‘first-time’ jitters that were noticeable,” said Wawasee coach Nike Prather. “Performing in front of the home crowd is fun, but also nerve wracking.

“Our bars are very weak at this time. But our strong vaults made up for it. Aundreya had a great meet, hitting all events and winning floor ex and capturing the all-around ribbon. That is quite an accomplishment against a state powerhouse like Carroll.”

Wawasee hosts Angola in a dual meet Tuesday.
