Representatives from Kosciusko Live Well and Kosciusko Leadership Academy told the Board of Public Works and Safety Friday about a discount program for first responders.
Live Well Kosciusko President Lisa Harman said her organization and KLA wanted to show appreciation to local first responders in Kosciusko County.
The initiative, which is part of a larger campaign called K-County First, offers a discount program to first responders.
Lois Borkholder, KLA, said it is a win across the board because there are businesses that will offer a discount and people who will be willing to support those businesses.
Every first responder will get an ID card, which designates them to receive the discount. The cards will be updated every year.
Board member George Clemens asked if there was any cost to the business for the discount program. Harman said just the discount the business is offering.
Businesses that are part of the initiative are Ledgeview Brewing Company, Creighton’s Crazy Egg Cafe, Light Rail Cafe, Rocket Fizz and Tippy Creek Winery.
The board also approved the purchase of a salt barn from Greystone Construction for $249,655.
Street Superintendent Dustin Dillon the barn would increase the street department’s ability to store salt. It is a 4,000-ton capacity salt barn.
