WINONA LAKE – Bees are buzzing; flowers are blooming; signs of spring are in the air! Celebrate its arrival by attending one of the Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams’ many upcoming events in April and May.
• Expedition: Spring Foraging: April 25, 3 p.m. at the Spear Lake Nature Trail. Finding natural foods at an affordable price can be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be, according to a provided news release. Join the Lilly Center and guest speaker Carrie Vrabel, a certified Wild Mushroom Identification Expert, and learn how to identify edible plants and fungi found in the area. • Workshop: Porch Gardening: May 2, 10 a.m. at the Lilly Center. Love gardening but don’t have the yard space for it? Don’t let that stop you from putting your green thumb to work. The Lilly Center is partnering with Purdue Extension to teach participants how to create gardens in small spaces, using pots, window boxes and planters. • Expedition: Wildflower ID Hike: May 16, 10 a.m. at Wildwood ACRES Land Trust. Spring is in full bloom. What better way to appreciate its beauty than a good old-fashioned nature hike with the Lilly Center and ACRES Land Trust. Gavin King will teach participants how to identify local wildflowers and plants along easy walking trails with light snacks provided.
