‘Life Is Better In North Webster’ Is ‘23 Mermaid Festival’s Theme

NORTH WEBSTER - The 77th Mermaid Festival in North Webster is Wednesday, June 21 to Saturday, June 24, and this year’s theme is “Life is Better In North Webster Indiana.”

While associated activities kicked off Saturday, June 17 with the Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation Tournament of Champions, the fun on the festival grounds begins Wednesday with the North Webster United Methodist Strawberry Festival from 4 to 7 p.m.

The midway will be open from 5 p.m. to close, with $25 wristbands. Merchant and food vendors also will be open beginning at 5 p.m., with the cutie parade at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street.

From 7 to 9 p.m., RE/MAX will be offering tethered balloon rides.

The North Webster Lions Club bicycle giveaway is at 8 p.m. on Merlin’s Stage. After the giveaway, Lion’s Karate Academy performs at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The midway opens at 5 p.m. Thursday, with $25 wristbands, to close. Also from 5 p.m. to close will be Tactical Force Laser Tag and the merchant and food vendors.

From 5 to 7 p.m. will be Mermaid Pearlyana, with Bob Bohm’s Family Entertainment Show at 6 p.m. The Lake City Bank coin hunt is at 7 p.m.

Performing on Merlin’s Stage at 7:30 p.m. is Old Man Band, followed by Bob Bohm’s Family Entertainment Show at 8:30 p.m.

Midway, merchant and food vendors are 5 p.m. to close Friday, as is the Tactical Force Laser Tag.

Bob Bohm’s Family Entertainment Show is at 6:30 p.m. Friday, with the cutie pageant at 7 p.m. at the North Webster Community Center. Winners of the 2022 Cutie Queen and King were Ayianna Birks and Matteo Labarbera.

Performing on Merlin’s Stage at 7:30 p.m. will be Inclognito Cloggers, followed by Bob Bohm’s Family Entertainment Show at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, the midway goes from noon to close, with the $25 wristband all day from noon to close. Merchant and food vendors and Tactical Force Laser Tag will go from noon to close.

At 11:30 a.m. is the Power Wheels registration, followed by racing at noon. Each age group winner receives a prize. Bring your favorite power wheels or some will be available to use. It’s for kids up to 8 years old.

Bob Bohm’s Family Entertainment Show will be at 12:30, 2:30, 6 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Mermaid Festival Parade starts at 4 p.m. on Main Street, with the Mermaid Festival Demolition Derby at 7 p.m.

The Queen of the Lakes pageant has 18 contestants this year and will begin at 7 p.m. at the North Webster Community Center. Queens from the last five pageants were Jordan Hofmann in 2022, Corynn Barton in 2021, Meghan Beer in 2019, Mikala Mawhorter in 2018 and Hanna Parker in 2017.

Performing on Merlin’s Stage at 8 p.m. will be He Said She Said band.
