Library Director Ann Zydek updated the Warsaw Community Public Library Board members during the meeting Monday on a podcast the library was involved in.
The library and Friends of the Library were invited to participate in a recording session with the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation in the “Clearly Kosciusko” podcast. Administrative assistant Robin Fosnaugh represented the library and Merri Bottorff, FOL president, represented FOL.
The podcast was looking at some “gems of the community” and asked the library to be there, Zydek said. As of Monday, the podcast had not come out yet.
Zydek also updated the board on some repairs the library experienced in the building or the area.
“We had a roof leak around one of the exhaust hoods. Royalty Roofing was on site March 26 and repaired a couple of holes that were found,” she said.
On March 31, the library was closed because a 12-inch water main that broke at Ind. 15 and Center Street. The library was without water. There was a boil order for 24 hours after that. Zydek said there is a new hydrant at the intersection.
“That was interesting to say the least,” Zydek said.
Zydek said when checking busy time periods, there is a pattern of when the library is busy. She said the pattern shows 11 a.m. to be a busy time period, with Saturdays being the busiest day during that time frame. Zydek also said the library is also busy around that time on Mondays and Tuesdays. Another time period that is “really big right now” is Fridays when people get out of work.
The children’s department plans to add some special collections to the department. One of the special collections is beginning chapter books, putting something between easy readers and chapter books. The other collection is a tween collection, as something readers can go into before the young adult collection.
Board members are Christopher Merill, Barbara Beck, Jill Beehler, Ben Rice, Jenn Hicks, Cathi Zdenek and Tim Keyes.
