Library Board Elects Officers For 2021, Approves Salaries

To get ready for next year, the Warsaw Library Board voted Monday on its 2021 slate of officers.

During 2020, officers were Chris Merrill, president; Babara Beck, vice president; Cathy Zdenek, secretary; and Ben Rice, treasurer.

The only change in positions for 2021 was that of secretary. Zdenek said there was “a very slight chance” she would be moving over the course of the next year, so she opened up the position to other board members in case she did end up moving. They voted to have Jill Beehler be the board’s secretary for 2021.

Warsaw Community Public Library Assistant Director Joni Brookins said technology plans were developed to accommodate those working from home in the future, should the need arise, as well as if the library has to shut down for whatever reason for any “significant amount of time.”

The board also approved the salary schedule for next year for the library’s employees. Business Manager Renee Sweeny said salaries were frozen from this year.

Merrill asked if the numbers were what was put in the budget. Sweeny said the numbers will be a little lower than what was budgeted due to some revisions made since then.

The board also approved several updates to library policies.

One of the policies was their anti-harassment/non-retaliation policy. The policy commits to provide a workplace free of harassment or inappropriate conduct because of an employee’s race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, disability and citizenship status, among other things.

The board also approved job performance appraisal policy, workplace expectations policy, drug-free/alcohol-free policy and termination of employment policy updates.

Sweeny said some of the wording was suggested by the library’s attorney.
