Lewis P. Rule, 92, of 2404 E. CR 225S, Warsaw, died at 11:40 a.m. Jan. 28, 2009, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He was born March 3, 1916, in Marshall County, to Lewis Franklin and Pearl May Sutter Rule. On Jan. 17, 1946, in Columbia City, he married Martha Joan Tibbitts, who survives.
Living in Kosciusko County for 60 years, he worked for the Kosciusko County Highway Department and Martin Electric Motor Shop. He then purchased the shop in 1964, and operated it as Rule Electric Motor Shop until retirement in 1984. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a tech sergeant in England and was a POW in Germany. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, for more than 50 years. He also was a 50-year member of American Legion Post 49, Warsaw, for more than 50 years and a member of the Senior Activity Center, Warsaw. He loved to fish and read his Bible. He was a Red Cross volunteer in Kosciusko County and received the Chapter Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award for more than 20 years of service.
Also surviving are two daughters, Elaine (and spouse Ron) Reed, Warsaw, and Lu Ann (and spouse Jeff) Eastwood, Fort Wayne; three grandchildren: Jennifer (and spouse Joseph) Duncan, Hoover, Ala.; Scott (and spouse Julie) Reed, Etna Green; and Kelli N. Eastwood, Fort Wayne; four great-grandsons, Trey and Alex Duncan and Grant and Griffin Reed; many nieces and nephews; a brother, Roscoe (and spouse Glea) Rule, Columbia City; a sister, Vera Homan, Warsaw; a brother-in-law, Herschel Schooley, Warsaw; and a sister-in-law, O. Joan Rule, North Manchester. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Junior and Wilbur Rule; and three sisters, Irene Simison, Ina Shilling and Agnes Schooley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Andy Martin officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126, both in Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
