Editor, Times-Union: Just when I start to think that all is lost and that the wheels of my friend Gary Gerard's car are slipping irrevocably into a right-wing rut, he surprises me by generating an editorial indicating that he is, at least at times, a free-thinking individual.
Such was the case in the Nov. 27-28 edition of the Times-Union in addressing the delicate subject of "humility in victory."
It should be obvious to everyone that the margin by which this latest presidential election was determined was in no way a resounding mandate, but a wafer-thin edge. And considering that the great centrist nature of the American public will surely prevail in the end, it would not be to anyone's advantage in the current administration to play too heavily that winning card and to taunt, like an NFL cornerback, the 49 percent of the American electorate that is standing by with millions of moderate Republicans, watching and waiting to see what ensues.
It is indeed time to work to unify - not further divide - the American public. And I would suggest that the senior leadership of the current Bush administration read Gary Gerard's latest column.

Toy Drive Success
Editor, Times-Union: We would like to say thanks to all the local merchants, to the community, and to all the volunteers who helped make our recent toy drive a success. Thank you as well to the band the Mad Cow Boys for donating their time to perform at our event. If it was not for the hard work and generosity of all our supporters, we could not make this event happen. This year a lot of children in our community will have something under the tree come Christmas morning. Once again, we would like to thank each and every person who helped make this event happen and to everyone who donated their time, money, cans and of course toys. Thank you.
