Editor, Times-Union: Re: Leslie E. Swanson So, Ms. Swanson, you heard our current conflict in the Middle East is some kind of holy war. Perhaps then you've also heard about world peace. Both are religious superstitions, or if you prefer, fairy tales, which have only served to inspire warriors to subject themselves to the possibility of incineration on battlefields for centuries.
It's not surprising to me that many do not understand war. The withholding of truth is the major strategy of power.
Today, society suffers from information overload. When facts and fables are present in equal amount, truth frequently evades us.
Since freedom is not free the question becomes, what does it buy? Some would suggest a lifestyle. Since war is a corporate affair, our forefathers wrote the constitution.
Our constitution protects corporate freedom here on God's golden shore. Does such freedom exist from sea to shining sea? No, because if it did, everything in the sea would die. Unemployment would be 100 percent worldwide. That's what we get for conducting business like the devil, while his representatives seek whom they may deceive. I believe this is his kingdom. What do you think?
P.S. Our forefathers were lawyers, not exactly the pious men our educators and preachers suggest.

Voting
Editor, Times-Union: I think the punch card ballot is the best system we have ever had. So-called hanging chads did not justify changing our voting system. I voted today, a straight ticket, and the ballot for the local persons never came up, or I didn't recognize it. So I did not get to vote for school board, etc. There was no way I could go back and vote those two pages. On punch card ballots they were all very visible, you could not miss them and the equipment was not very expensive.
