Prison Response

Editor, Times-Union:
Jennifer Whitaker - in the future if you choose to write an answer to one of my letters, which I welcome, would you please read what I have actually written without adding and accusing me of things I didn't write.

I did not use the words "life threatening" as you say I did. I do not agree with plea-bargaining. Either you committed the crime or you didn't.

For your information, I consider crimes against children to be most intolerable. Anyone who has no more control over themselves than to sexually abuse a child does not belong in society. That person deserves to be locked away for life and deserves whatever happens to him or her in prison.

What I did write was that I believe only those who are a threat to the safety of others should be incarcerated. We are at this time releasing violent criminals out on the street in order to make room for drug users. We will never win the war on drugs, it is nothing more than a political game and a waste of taxpayer money. If someone wants to waste their money on drugs it's their loss. I don't care to have my money wasted on housing them in some expensive prison country club where they can get all the drugs they want.

Our so-called justice system is no longer about justice. It is a political game where the players compete for their own personal financial and political gain.

There are thousands of people doing time for crimes they didn't commit while the real criminals are still on the street. This is a terrible tragedy, but we are all human and make mistakes in judgement so therefore, too often the innocent are being punished needlessly. Which means they are being subjected to the homosexuality, corruption and cruelty that goes on in our prisons. This can be changed. There is no excuse or reason for this continued prison behavior. There is far too much freedom allowed prisoners. These people lost their rights when they were convicted and they are being punished for their crimes.

I would much prefer my tax money be spent on prison reform than on more of the cesspools we now have.

Walters Benefit

Editor, Times-Union:
I would like to challenge our community to give a gift of money to help Jill Walters' mother, Nancy, with expenses while Jill remains in the hospital in comatose stage. Most of all, please pray for Jill to recover from this accident. Prayers do work. A year ago August, our daughter was in an accident and without prayer we don't know the outcome. Everyone who saw Shannon's accident says it is a miracle she is here today. Jill's mother hasn't been able to return to work since the accident. We have a great community. Let's show Nancy and Jill we really do care.

You can send a check and card to Nancy at the address below. I think everyone would like to help out. We just don't know how. Now is your chance to do something to help.

Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, 4141 Shore Drive, RM 413, Left, Indianapolis, IN 46524-2607.

Make checks payable to Walnut Creek Church and make the gift for the Walters family, Ind. 15S and CR 200S, Warsaw, IN 46580.
