Editor, Times-Union: On Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 a.m., there is a very important town board meeting. The board will decide about the vacation of two portions of public roadway.
The first is Chestnut Street from First Street to where it intersects with Park Ave.
The residents of Chestnut Street from Seventh Street fear for the lives of their children because motorists disregard the posted speed limits on that section of Chestnut.
The town board has several choices:
They can restrict the use of that portion of Chestnut to pedestrian only or non-motorized vehicle only.
They can close it to any and all traffic without vacating.
They can vacate it and it then becomes the property of the land holders on either side of the street.
The second street is Canal Street - everything north of Auditorium.
The town board could; Restrict the use of this portion of the roadway to non-motorized vehicles or pedestrian only.
They can close it to any and all traffic without vacating it.
They can vacate it and it then becomes the property of the land holders on adjacent property.
Please call your board representative and voice your opinion or attend the board meeting and state your opinion. This town belongs to every resident of the town of Winona Lake and your town board values your opinions.
