Update On Alex

Editor, Times-Union:
Just wanted you to know that Alex just arrived home from her first check-up after her operation. Alex saw her doctors at Johns Hopkins hospital on the July 6. Dr. Freeman said that Alex is doing so well and not having any seizures that we can now start dropping her medication. We are so thrilled!

Since Alex's operation in February of this year (five months post-op) she has learned how to jump, run and is talking all the time. She has become a very independent child. This is something we as her parents thought we would never see. I wish we could invite the whole community over to see how she is doing. We want everyone to see how she has progressed. Her doctors say that by the time she is 6 years old she will be functioning like normal 6-year-olds her age.

Again, we would like to extend a word of thanks to this community for all the support they have showed Alex and our family. Thank you.

Special Olympics

Editor, Times-Union:
On behalf of the Kosciusko County Special Olympics, I want to let the community know about the generosity of the Knights of Columbus.

This year, as in past years, they will be the Kosciusko County Special Olympics' biggest financial supporter. Without their support, the Special Olympics would have difficulty offering the athletic and social opportunities we are currently able to offer.

Recently, our athletes participated in the Indiana State games. What a shining example of what community support can make possible! Kosciusko County Special Olympics athletes demonstrated courage, personal best and team work, and came away with several gold medals. Thanks, Knights of Columbus, for your support!

Fair Inspirations

Editor, Times-Union:
I would like to take a moment to thank a few people who were a great help and inspiration to me at the fair this year.

First to Bill Dixon of WAWC and Brian Walsh of Cow Country radio stations - thanks for your enthusiastic support of our first annual community parade on Thursday evening. Not only having Dan Daggett and Dee Daily of Cow Country along with Todd "Splash" Lucas of WAWC emceeing the event, but also having Bill and Brain competing in an old fashioned tractor/barrel race after the parade was a treat. Bill drove his tractor, which is a 1951 Farmall "H," all the way down to Warsaw from Syracuse to use in the race. Jerry and Jane Grady were gracious to let Brian use their 1955 John Deere "70," which was the same model of tractor Brian drove as a teen-ager on his Dad's farm.

Then on Saturday I observed one of the finest gestures of sportsmanship when Bill presented Brian with a miniature John Deere toy tractor commemorating Brian's winning the race, which was done live on the air I might add. Thanks, fellas, for showing us how it's done.

To another group who is special to me - the Echoes From The Past tractor club, who provided the manpower to set up our antique display and run the various demonstrations at the fair this year, thanks for making my job enjoyable. Last, but not least, to the two directors we will be losing this year: Steve Trump and Becky Thomas, thanks for the endless hours that you have given over the past six years that have helped bring about the many compliments that we heard about the Kosciusko County 4-H & Community Fair. You'll be missed.

Zimbabwe

Editor, Times-Union:
Your two recent articles published on Zimbabwe were accurate, to the point and expressed the hardships and frustrations of the majority of the Zimbabwean Nation.

I have lived in Africa all my life, the last 21 years in Botswana. Watching our many neighbors suffer and struggle under "independence" and trying to deal with the daily influx of refugees is a tragedy to say the least.

Thank you for printing the truth in such a professional, responsible manner.

Congrats To Warsaw

Editor, Times-Union:
I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the city of Warsaw on a momentous occasion. Earlier this year, your city celebrated its 125th anniversary of incorporation.

I was excited to recently read about some of the small businesses that have evolved into being icons for the city of Warsaw, like the Times-Union, Lake City Bank and DePuy, which have all been a part of Warsaw since before the 20th century even began.

Warsaw has stood through two world wars, the Great Depression and other significant periods of modern history that have seen such things as the invention of the Internet. While the times and technology have changed, the people of Warsaw remain the same. They are good and hardworking Americans who have never lost sight of the American dream. The people of Warsaw ought to be commended.

Once again, congratulations to the city of Warsaw - 125 years of incorporation is something to celebrate.
