Editor, Times-Union: A recent letter to the editor questioned Kosciusko REMC's tree-trimming practices. While we regret the experience this member feels she had, there seems to be a general misunderstanding conveyed in the letter, which I would like to address.
Firstly, KREMC is committed to providing quality, reliable service at the lowest price possible. Our tree-trimming program is a necessary means towards that end. To assist us in our efforts, we contract with a professional vegetation management company. These tree trimmers are paid based on our contract, not per tree cut down, as was suggested. When trimming trees, they adhere to the American National Standard Institute A-300 Printing Standards to ensure the trimming is being done in a way that best fits the needs of the tree. Occasionally, in terms of safety and cost-benefit analysis, it makes more sense to remove the tree, especially in cases of faster-growing trees, such as the mulberry. When removal is necessary, we explain the situation to the member and leave the decision to them. We certainly understand the sentiments of the tree owner and, in no way, do we force or coerce them in their decision.
Also, our line clearance supervisor, who directs the work of the tree trimmers and was referenced in the letter, is a certified arborist with more than 28 years of field experience. He has a high regard for plant life, as well as an extensive knowledge on the differences, needs and growth patterns of all forms of vegetation. What's more, he treats each member with dignity and respect, as is evidenced by his excellent customer service record.
We implemented a more organized, proactive approach to tree trimming in 2003 and, since that time, have seen a significant reduction in outages. Throughout this program, we have striven to supply our members with safe, reliable service in a fiscally responsible way. As a member-owned cooperative, we are committed to our customers and their satisfaction. Should someone have a question on our tree-trimming practices - or any other issue - we invite them to contact our office at 800-790-7362 or mail@kremc.com We are always pleased to hear from our members.

Editor, Times-Union: Re: Ms.Sarah Lowe Please reread my letters, there is only questions and morally correct advice in their content. There are no personal attacks! If I had attacked you, I would be no doubt of my intent. Since you feel that you have been personally attacked, it must be an internal thing within your own soul and heart. It does appear that you add false meaning to letters that you read, and then hope others will feel sorry for your cause. If others will reread my letters and yours, they will see that you are the one that reads but does not comprehend content. I will not waste anymore of my effort on you or others like you for you will not listen to your own soul, so why would you listen to me? May Christ always guide you to and keep you on his path.
