Recycling

Editor, Times-Union,
My letter is in reference to Darin Tudor who gave his reasons for not recycling. His first reason was that there was no incentive and "what is in it for me"? I live in the country where we have to pay quarterly to have a trash hauler pick up the trash on a weekly basis. My last bill was for $91.41 for four months. Every quarter the bill increases and will continue to do so. There are only two people in my household, but yet I pay the same as any other family, no matter how many are in the household. I recycle everything I can, so there are only two bags or less of trash per week. If I didn't recycle, there would be at least four bags.

I take the recyclables in town about every two weeks and my trunk is full. I feel very good about not creating more waste for our landfills and the fact that these items are being recycled into useful products. I could very well ask "what's in it for me"? However, I don't look at it that way. I know my small contribution has saved that much more room in our landfills. As landfills fill up, it will only cost more money to dispose of our trash, which will be passed along to the consumer.

Racism

Editor, Times-Union,
It is unfortunate that the recent and needed discussion regarding immigration reform and equity has turned into an opportunity for people to spew their unrelated racist lies and bigotry. This is happening all over the country, and we in the Warsaw area are no different in being exposed to this drivel. Most recently we had the unfortunate and (most recently rare, thank God) occasion to read some of Tom Metzger's "crap" (sorry - that's the best word to describe it) right here in our own paper's Letters to the Editor. I encourage people to read letters like this only to know how things really are NOT, and then to reach out to our neighbors and coworkers, regardless of their ethnicity, to give some balance words like Metzger's and others'.

I am not 'white' (I am actually more of a pinkish-tan due to some time in the sun), but if we are talking about race, I just prefer to be called human.

Sincerely,
Lisa Rector

Sharpest Tool

Editor, Times-Union
Mr. Clark, you have proven beyond reproach that a person with an "axe to grind" is undoubtedly "not" the "sharpest tool in the shed".

Sincerely,

Biodiesel Plant

Editor, Times-Union,
Glad to see industry moving into the area in the form of the new biodiesel plant. Local and state incentives have been given to the company to locate here. I have read that the plant will initially have 80 employees but, given the propensity of both parties and the agricultural industry, have to wonder how many of these new employees will be United States Citizens?
