Speeding Drivers

Editor, Times-Union:
I agree with Mister Kitson on his letters about the morons speeding around Warsaw and the surrounding country roads. Maybe they just got their attention on their cell phone and don't have the foggiest idea what they are doing. Throw out the Daylight-Saving bill and add one for the cell phone morons. Heaven forbid you miss a call.

Daylight-Saving Time

Editor, Times-Union:
The issue of observing Daylight-Saving Time is a really big waste of time in my eyes. I must be a total idiot or something, because I fail to see the advantages of observing this practice like other states. Sometimes change is necessary to improve life, but I believe it falls under the case of "If it ain't broke..." this time! I helped put Governor Daniels into office, yet I disagree with him on this particular topic. I think the only thing this would accomplish is confusing and angering most of us. Would someone please explain to me why such an idea would be good for Hoosiers?

Juveniles And Crime

Editor, Times-Union:
During the early morning hours of Monday, April 4, three cars filled with juveniles and one adult (since arrested) decided to take a joy ride through the streets of Warsaw and outlying county roads. To jump start their spring break these kids made the decision to purposely cause serious damage to the properties of numerous unsuspecting residents in Kosciusko County.

Tuesday and Wednesday's editions of the Times-Union listed the "fun" these young people had and the damage they caused by their BB guns. These juveniles and their adult companion destroyed over $12,000 of property by shooting out the windows of vehicles and businesses, violating well over 21 people and businesses. Who knows if any animals were shot and harmed or other damages made that have of yet gone undetected or unreported.

My family was personally affected by their crime and quite frankly, I am not eager to let them get by with just a "talking to" and/or grounded from their Play Station for a month. It is my belief that these young people need to be held accountable for their actions and restitution be made to the victims of their crimes.

Had these same youths held up a bank or a gas station (with a BB gun) and stolen $12,000 or mugged 21 people with the same BB gun, their crime would be taken more seriously, I'm sure. However, needlessly and ruthlessly destroying the property of so many people causing the amount of damage these kids did should be addressed as the serious crime it is.

The destruction these kids caused is not a "boys will be boys" rite of passage. It's a crime and a very costly crime.

To the thrill-seeking juveniles and your adult companion who destroyed the rear window of a Honda Element at Hide Away Hills, we would like to be reimbursed the $349.50 it cost to have the window replaced. If you think because you are a "kid" you shouldn't have to pay for the destruction you caused, I would certainly think again. There are civil courts of law that may think differently.

I would like to ask anyone affected by the BB gun rampage to call the prosecutor's office and ask that these kids be made to make restitution for the damage they caused to your property. If we don't start demanding better accountability by our youth, we have no one to blame but ourselves for the continued rise in crimes committed by kids merely seeking a thrill.
