Health

Editor, Times-Union:
I am not one who writes substantially, but I have been thinking on this for some time. I am very concerned about our economy, health and strength. Our forefathers did not make as much as we do now, but according to the times, it amounts about the same due to current expenses and cost-of-living expense. If people would give up drugs, alcohol, smoking and take the money, their brains, hands and knowledge, then every individual's health and the nation's economy would be better. We would have enough money to find a cure for deadly diseases and heart issues.

The money invested in feeding your habit only helps the dealer. This is a beautiful county, and God wants every individual to be wise and take care. We do not need another country taking care of us. We have welcomed many from other countries with open arms.

It is an honor to have organizations like Zimmer, DePuy and Biomet for having the courage to develop replacement legs, arms, hips and knees. There is a lot more that needs to be done to solve the health issues. We all need to realize what we are doing to ourselves and start realizing how fortunate we are living in this country.

Disgusted

Editor, Times-Union:
I was very disgusted with the article "What's Wrong With Tiger Basketball" under sports editor Dale Hubler's byline in the sports section of Saturday's Times-Union.

When you are hired as a department editor of the dominant print media outlet of the community, your responsibility to the public brings an increased level of objectivity, fairness, good taste and yes, even restraint at times. Although I found a great deal of the article inappropriate, the innuendo-loaded, inflammatory and near-libelous sentence - "Are the players being mistreated or lied to?" - was especially repulsive. That is a cheap shot!

I have never met Doug Ogle or Dale Hubler. As a former high school varsity basketball coach of 25 years duration (six years as an assistant at WCHS), I see only a couple of Warsaw Tiger games a year and thus don't feel qualified to judge Mr. Ogle as a great coach, fair coach, poor coach or bad coach. I do know that in my 25 years of coaching, no sports writer ever laid a cheap shot like that on me - Mr. Hubler, in my opinion you owe Mr. Ogle and his staff an apology, hopefully one that is public, sincere and without delay.

Vote

Editor, Times-Union:
Recently in the news was an article raising the point why the ethics committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives were not investigating the various shenanigans that are going on. Duh! Who is going to investigate the members of the ethics committees? Give me a break, as one person on a television program says.

We, the people, are to blame for what is wrong in our government. Way over half of our people do not register to vote, and many who do register do not care enough about our country to take the time to exercise this great privilege. More than 80 percent of the people in Iraq voted. If we had this percent of our people voting our elected officials would listen to us and not the special interests person. People, please show your appreciation to our present young men and women who are paying the supreme sacrifice and to those in the past who paid the same by registering and voting.
